From Chaos to Clarity: How Our Crafting Journey Began
If you’ve ever found yourself returning to a love you thought you’d left behind, you know the bittersweet joy of a revival. That’s exactly how Clarity Craft Studio began — with a handful of colorful clay beads and a nine-year-old’s boundless imagination.
It was Clara, my oldest daughter, who unknowingly started it all. One day, she asked if she could make her own jewelry. Her grandparents bought her a small kit of clay beads, and I watched her string them together with a focus and joy that felt achingly familiar. Something stirred in me — a reminder of a part of myself I hadn’t visited in years.
A Long-Lost Rhythm
Before I was a wife, a mother of three, and a full-time professor juggling the demands of academia, I was a maker. In high school, I sewed my own homecoming and prom dresses, helped create costumes for my dance company, and stitched cozy pajama pants for friends — often within a day after a trip to JoAnn’s. I loved the feeling of bringing something beautiful to life with my own hands.
In 2015 while I was pregnant with Clara, writing my doctoral dissertation, and applying for postdoctoral fellowships, I launched a small handmade neckwear line called MeeLace Neck Adornment. I poured my love for bold, elevated fiber arts into each piece. But as research deadlines loomed, lesson plans multiplied, and the joyful chaos of raising three children took center stage, I had to put my crafting tools away.
And they stayed packed for years.
The Spark That Lit Again
Watching Clara fall in love with her craft was like holding a mirror to my younger self. I began to join her at the table — first to keep her company and offer suggestions. Soon, late nights after everyone was asleep became my time to string yarn, link beads, block print fabric, and sink back into the bliss of the creative process.
It became more than a hobby. It was a release. A way to breathe again. And it was something we could share.
Why “Clarity” Craft Studio?
The name came naturally. This practice — sitting together, creating together — brought me back to a place of clarity. It reminded me that joy can live in the smallest details: a single knot, a bead sliding into place, the whir of a rotary cutter, the sound of Clara eagerly describing her latest collection idea.
Clarity Craft Studio isn’t just about what we make. It’s about the connection between hands, hearts, and heritage. It’s about honoring the women who created before us — my grandmothers, Ernestine and Tish — and passing those skills and stories to the next generation.
Our Vision
We want to create more than just beautiful handmade goods. We want our pieces to spark joy, become keepsakes, and inspire others to create their own.
We believe every strand, bead, and stitch carries a story — and we’re honored to share ours with you.
Whether you’ve been with us since the MeeLace days or you’ve just discovered Clarity Craft Studio, welcome. We’re so glad you’re here.
Here’s to the beauty of a shared table, the joy of making, and the clarity that comes when we create together.
